Gwaltney of Midway, Spencer County, IN. Josiah was a family namesake. It was J.J.'s grandfather, Josiah Gwaltney who left Isle of Wight County VA in the early 1800's and moved to the Hamilton Co. (Cincinnati) OH region. From there, a branch of Gwaltneys moved across the state line westward into Spencer County IN.
